How to Stream to Multiple Platforms
at the Same Time — Complete Guide 2026

YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Twitch, Instagram Live — simultaneously. Whether you want to go live on every platform at once using free software, a hardware encoder, or a cloud multistreaming service, this guide covers every method, every platform, and every budget. No technical background required.

📱 TikTok Creators ▶️ YouTubers 🎮 Twitch Streamers 📸 Instagram Live 📘 Facebook Live ⛪ Churches & Worship 🎙️ Podcasters 🏢 Corporate Events 📡 Broadcasters 🏟️ Live Events

What Is Multistreaming — And Why Does It Matter?

Multistreaming (also called simulcasting) means broadcasting your live video to more than one platform at exactly the same time. While you are live on YouTube, the same stream is also going out on TikTok, Facebook Live, Twitch and Instagram Live — reaching every audience you have built, simultaneously, with no extra effort.

For creators, this is transformational. You do one broadcast and reach four or five times the audience. For businesses, it means a product launch, town hall or event is visible everywhere at once. For churches, a service goes out to YouTube, Facebook and the church website at the same time.

The technology to do this is now accessible to everyone — from free software solutions to dedicated hardware that does it automatically with no computer at all.

The key insight: Every major streaming platform accepts video via RTMP — a standard protocol for sending video over the internet. Once you understand that, multistreaming becomes simple: you are just sending the same RTMP stream to multiple destinations instead of one.

The 3 Methods — Which One Is Right for You?

There are three fundamentally different approaches to multistreaming. Each has different costs, complexity and quality trade-offs.

Method Cost Needs a PC? Stream Quality Best For
OBS + free multistream service Free ✓ Yes Good (depends on PC) Creators, gamers, beginners
Hardware encoder Hardware cost, then free ✗ No PC needed Excellent (dedicated hardware) Churches, events, fixed installs
Cloud multistreaming service Monthly subscription ✓ Yes (or hardware) Good (extra encode hop) Professionals, large audiences

Method 1: OBS Studio + Free Multistream Service

This is the most popular method for creators because it costs nothing. OBS Studio is free streaming software. A multistream service (like Restream.io or Castr) takes your single OBS stream and forwards it to every platform simultaneously. You stream once — they split it everywhere.

1

Download and install OBS Studio (free)

Go to obsproject.com and download OBS Studio. It is free, runs on Windows, Mac and Linux, and has no watermark or time limits.

2

Create a free account on Restream.io

Restream.io free plan lets you stream to two platforms simultaneously. Their paid plan (around £14/month) adds unlimited platforms including TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, LinkedIn and more.

3

Connect your platforms in Restream

In your Restream dashboard, connect each platform — YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, Twitch etc. Restream guides you through each one. It handles the stream keys automatically.

4

Set Restream as your OBS stream destination

In OBS: Settings → Stream → Service: Restream.io → connect your Restream account. Now OBS sends one stream to Restream, and Restream forwards it to all your platforms.

5

Go live in OBS — you are streaming everywhere

Click Start Streaming in OBS. Within seconds you are live on every platform you connected. Check each platform to confirm — it usually takes 20-30 seconds for streams to appear.

📊 Diagram 1 — OBS + Cloud Multistream Service (Free Method)
📷 CAMERA HDMI output + Capture Card USB 💻 PC + OBS Free software One stream out to Restream RTMP RTMP ☁️ RESTREAM CLOUD SERVICE Receives 1 stream Forwards to all platforms at once 📺 YouTube 🎮 Twitch 📱 TikTok Live 📘 Facebook Live 📸 Instagram Live
Important quality note: When using a cloud multistream service, your video goes from your PC → to the cloud → then to each platform. Each platform re-encodes it again. This means the video quality is slightly lower than streaming directly. For most creators this is fine. For broadcast-quality output, a hardware encoder streaming directly is better.

Method 2: Hardware Encoder — No PC Required, Professional Quality

A standalone hardware encoder is a small box that connects directly to your camera's HDMI output and your internet router, then streams to multiple platforms simultaneously — with no computer needed at all. You configure it once via a web browser, then unplug the laptop. Every time you power it on, it goes live automatically.

This is the professional standard for fixed locations — churches, conference rooms, schools, sports venues and broadcast facilities. No software crashes. No Windows updates interrupting a live service. No IT knowledge needed on the day.

📊 Diagram 2 — Hardware Encoder Streaming to Multiple Platforms (No PC)
📷 CAMERA Any HDMI camera DSLR / PTZ / Camcorder HDMI cable 🔴 HARDWARE ENCODER Encodes video internally Streams directly to internet No PC required Ultra Encode / Ultra Stream 🌐 Internet Router (Ethernet) 📺 YouTube Live 🎮 Twitch 📱 TikTok Live 📘 Facebook Live 📸 Instagram / RTMP 💾 Also records locally
Why hardware encoders are the professional standard: Unlike software running on a PC, a hardware encoder uses dedicated silicon to encode video — it never crashes, never slows down, never gets interrupted by Windows updates or browser notifications. Once configured, it runs the same way every single time. For a church that streams every Sunday or a venue that broadcasts every event, hardware is the right investment.

Method 3: Cloud Multistreaming Services Compared

Cloud multistreaming services sit between your encoder (software or hardware) and the platforms. You send one stream to the service, they forward it everywhere. The main ones are Restream.io, Castr, Streamyard and Switchboard Live.

Service Free Plan Platforms Best For Works With Hardware Encoder?
Restream.io ✓ 2 platforms 30+ Creators, OBS users ✓ Yes
Castr ✗ Paid only 40+ Professional streams ✓ Yes
Streamyard ✓ Limited 8+ Interviews, talk shows ⚡ Browser based
Switchboard Live ✗ Paid only 30+ Enterprise, events ✓ Yes
Hardware encoder direct ✓ Free after hardware 4-6 simultaneous Fixed installs, no PC ✓ Built in

Platform-by-Platform Guide — What You Need to Know

📺 YouTube Live

YouTube is the most creator-friendly platform for live streaming. It supports RTMP from any source. You get your stream key from YouTube Studio → Go Live → Stream. Set the server URL to rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2 and paste your stream key into OBS or your hardware encoder. YouTube Live supports up to 4K streaming. There is no follower requirement to go live on desktop.

🎮 Twitch

Twitch is the dominant gaming platform. Your RTMP server URL is the nearest Twitch ingest server — find yours at stream.twitch.tv/ingests. Stream keys are in your Twitch Creator Dashboard → Settings → Stream. Twitch recommends 1080p60 at 6,000 Kbps maximum. Note that Twitch has strict rules about simultaneously streaming the same content on other platforms — check their Terms of Service before simulcasting.

📱 TikTok Live

TikTok Live supports RTMP streaming for accounts with 1,000+ followers. The stream key and RTMP URL are available via TikTok Live Studio or the TikTok LIVE Centre. Alternatively, use a service like Restream.io which handles the TikTok integration automatically without needing direct RTMP access. TikTok Live works best at vertical (9:16) format — in OBS, set your canvas to 1080×1920 for TikTok, or use a separate output scene.

📘 Facebook Live

Facebook Live stream keys are found in Creator Studio → Live Dashboard → Create Live Video → Use Stream Key. The RTMP URL is rtmps://live-api-s.facebook.com:443/rtmp/. Facebook Live supports up to 1080p. Live videos on Facebook Pages perform significantly better in the algorithm than recorded uploads — streaming live gives you organic reach that pre-recorded video does not get.

📸 Instagram Live

Instagram Live via RTMP is available through third-party tools — Instagram does not give you direct RTMP access from its settings. Services like Yellow Duck, Restream.io and Streamyard connect to Instagram Live on your behalf. You stream to their service via RTMP, they forward it to Instagram. This requires a phone with Instagram installed and logged in during the stream.

SRT vs RTMP — which should you use? RTMP is the standard for streaming to public platforms (YouTube, Twitch, Facebook). SRT is better for contribution feeds over unreliable connections — sending from a remote location to a studio, or delivering a broadcast-quality feed to a media server. For most creators going live on YouTube or Twitch, RTMP is the right choice. For broadcast engineers, event companies and anyone streaming from a venue over 4G, SRT gives you significantly better resilience against packet loss.
📊 Diagram 3 — RTMP vs SRT: When to Use Each
RTMP — Use for Public Platforms Encoder → YouTube / Twitch / Facebook / TikTok ✓ Works on all major platforms ✓ Simple stream key setup ⚠ Can drop frames on unstable connections SRT — Use for Contribution & Remote Remote location → Studio / Media Server ✓ Recovers from packet loss automatically ✓ Encrypted — secure for corporate/broadcast ✓ Better over 4G / unreliable broadband RTMP Use Cases Church streaming to YouTube / Facebook Creator going live on Twitch or TikTok Corporate webinar to YouTube Sports event on Facebook Live SRT Use Cases OB truck sending feed to broadcast centre Remote reporter → studio over 4G Venue streaming over unreliable broadband Encrypted corporate contribution feeds

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I stream to YouTube, TikTok and Twitch at the same time for free?
Yes — using OBS Studio (free) and Restream.io (free plan for 2 platforms, paid for more). The free plan covers two platforms simultaneously. For TikTok, Twitch and YouTube simultaneously you need the Restream paid plan at around £14/month. Alternatively a hardware encoder like the Ultra Encode streams to multiple RTMP destinations natively with no monthly fee after the hardware purchase.
Does streaming to multiple platforms reduce video quality?
When using a cloud service like Restream, there is a slight quality reduction because the video is encoded, sent to the cloud, then re-encoded for each platform. For most creators this difference is invisible to viewers. When using a hardware encoder streaming directly to each platform's RTMP endpoint, each platform receives your original encode — no quality loss from cloud re-encoding.
What internet speed do I need to stream to multiple platforms at once?
When using a cloud multistream service, you only send one stream — so you need the same bandwidth as a single-platform stream: around 6-8 Mbps stable upload for 1080p. When streaming directly to multiple RTMP endpoints from a hardware encoder (without a cloud service), the encoder sends separate streams to each platform — multiply the bitrate by the number of platforms. For 3 platforms at 4Mbps each, you need 12Mbps stable upload. Always use wired Ethernet, not Wi-Fi.
Can I stream to TikTok Live from OBS without a phone?
TikTok Live via RTMP from OBS is available for accounts with 1,000+ followers through the TikTok Live Centre or third-party services. You do not need a phone to stream via RTMP — but Instagram Live (different platform) does require a connected phone during the stream. For TikTok specifically, using a service like Restream.io which has a native TikTok integration is the simplest route.
What is the difference between OBS multistream and a hardware encoder?
OBS runs on your computer and uses your CPU or GPU to encode video — it requires your computer to be running throughout the stream. A hardware encoder is a dedicated device with its own processor that encodes and streams independently — your computer can be off. Hardware encoders are more reliable (no software crashes), use less power, and are the professional standard for fixed installations. OBS is better for creators who want free, flexible software with advanced scene switching.
Is it against the rules to stream the same content on YouTube and Twitch at the same time?
Twitch's partner programme has exclusivity requirements that restrict simultaneous streaming to competing platforms. Twitch Affiliates (not Partners) and unaffiliated streamers are generally free to simulcast. YouTube has no such restrictions. Always check the current Terms of Service for each platform — these policies change. If you are a Twitch Partner, simulcasting to YouTube simultaneously is not permitted under your contract.
Can a hardware encoder stream to YouTube, Facebook and TikTok simultaneously without any service fee?
Yes — hardware encoders like the Ultra Encode AIO and Ultra Encode HDMI support multiple simultaneous RTMP destinations natively. You configure each platform's RTMP URL and stream key once in the encoder's browser interface, and it streams to all of them every time it is powered on — no monthly fee, no cloud service required, no computer needed.
How do I make my live stream look professional on TikTok compared to other creators?
Most TikTok creators stream from a phone camera. Using a proper camera (DSLR, mirrorless or camcorder) via a USB capture card into OBS gives you dramatically better image quality — real background blur, accurate colour, sharp detail and professional low-light performance. Add proper lighting (even a single ring light makes a huge difference), a decent microphone, and a clean background. The combination of professional camera quality via capture card hardware plus OBS is what separates top creators from the crowd.
